 After leading a succesful AI-medical startup that was sold, I went to Abbott Ventures where we are  looking for the next “big thing” to help patients and drive shareholder value.

Led a cross-functional team to grow and sell a nascent startup. We assembled a group of world-class doctors and Silicon Valley AI experts. Inventing and perfecting small data techniques with multiple data sources with machine learning to improve in procedure arrhythmia care. We used small data techniques to show doctors where the optimal place to ablate and how to treat patients generally. The techniques are now used in various surgical procedures. 

Successful exit with significant value for investors and employees.

    Led early-stage product design, including bringing physician input into the design and new product launch. Played a key role in Mergers & Acquisition analysis in EP, stroke, and structural spaces. 

    During 8 years at Abbott/SJM products worked on had $2B in revenue and were used in 640K patients annually in 2019.

    Vice President Clinical, Medical & Scientific Affairs (Cardiovascular)

    Promoted to lead clinical execution across cardiovascular including heart rhythm, stroke prevention (LAA closure), percutaneous heart valves, hypertension, and CAD. Delivered trials on budget in 7 product lines, reducing costs and speeding trials. Assisted in acquistions and general strategy. Led team of up to 350 people.

    Vice President of Clinical Affairs & Therapy Development (Electrophysiology)

    Guided entry into VT and AF ablation market, innovating new tool development, clinical trials, and regulatory strategy. Developed 2 new ablation catheters and a new mapping system; achieved first corporate US AF ablation FDA-indication.

    Managed cardiology research lab with 4 PhD students and 3 medical students with $5M budget.

    Led team of 7 doctors to treat NCAA athletes.

    Designed and built largest US VT program to date with cross-functional management.

    2002-2006

    Cardiology & Electrophysiology Fellow

     Evaluated new tools for both medical utility and likely commercial success in the lab of Dr. Douglas Packer. Tools included irrigated tip catheters (JNJ), intracardiac echo (ICE), cryoballon (MDT), 3D mapping (STJ), LAA occlusion, IRE, HIFU and other energy sources.

     

    Managed ward of up to 150 patients while supervising residents.

    Medical Resident

    In addition to managing a ward (20 patients) with 2 residents, designed and coded an algorithm to extract APCs from Holter monitors in patients with Paroxysmal AF.
